SPORTS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

At a time when the sports management sector is gaining importance in Turkey, this department is not available in any of the nearby provinces. Given its proximity to surrounding cities, Iğdır University is anticipated to attract students residing in the Eastern Anatolia Region who are interested in this program. Consequently, the likelihood of students from this region being employed in the sports management sector is expected to increase.

The factors considered in the preparation of the program are as follows:

The purpose of establishing this program is to meet the high demand for skilled intermediate staff in our country and the need to train qualified personnel with sufficient knowledge and experience. Therefore, the following qualifications will be sought in prospective students:

Utilizes available resources (such as finances, time, space, materials, and personnel) in the most rational way possible within the framework of management principles to achieve the organization’s objectives.
Aligns the goals of employees (such as athletes and coaches) with those of the organization to ensure harmony. Manages the recruitment and supervision of personnel and oversees sports facilities to develop physical education and sports programs.
Organizes components such as athletes, instructors, facilities, equipment, and sports competition programs in line with the objectives.
Communicates with a broad audience, including individuals and organizations at all levels in sports administration, such as clubs, federations, and schools, from top-level managers to each athlete.
Develops both short- and long-term plans for budgeting, recruiting coaches and personnel, operating facilities, constructing new ones, procuring equipment, and creating sports programs, making rational decisions to implement these plans.
Provides essential information for the effective and efficient management of sports-related institutions and organizations by considering the unique characteristics of sports, developing methods based on this information, and putting them into practice.
Creates an effective sports environment by adapting contemporary innovations, technology, and knowledge to management, making necessary adjustments in organizational structure, personnel arrangements, equipment, and methods used.

WORK ENVIROMENT and CONDITIONS

Sports managers typically work in office settings; however, they may also be required to spend time outdoors to supervise facilities and oversee athletes and other technical staff. This profession necessitates a high level of direct communication with individuals.

FIELDS of WoORK and EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Technological advancements in the field of sports, the successes observed in international events due to these advancements, and the significant role that sports now play in contemporary societies make management in this field highly essential. Sports managers can work in a variety of settings, including sports clubs in amateur and professional leagues, Provincial and District Directorates under the General Directorate of Youth and Sports, public and private sports facilities, athlete training centers, and private sports academies.

EARNINGS DURING AND AFTER EDUCATION

During their studies, students may benefit from student loans and tuition loans provided by the Credit and Dormitories Institution. Additionally, they have access to scholarship opportunities offered by both private and public institutions.

AFTER EDUCATION

Post-graduation earnings vary depending on the type of organization, whether it is an amateur or professional league, and the size of the club. Salaries are determined by the terms of individual contracts. In some sports, sports managers who have proven their success in professional clubs receive notably high compensation.

ADVANCEMENT and PROMOTION in the PROFESSION

Based on demonstrated success in the role, it is possible to transition from amateur to professional clubs. For those working in public institutions, advancement is also possible through attaining titles such as Assistant Director, Director, Provincial Director, Department Head, and similar positions.
